Practice Overview
Mestichelli Family Dentistry was started in 1982 on Broad Street in South Philadelphia as a family practice for general dentistry. Dr. William Mestichelli founded the practice as a solo practitioner, and he has been in business since that time. Currently, the practice is in its fourth location at 1727 South Broad Street. All previous locations of the practice have been on Broad Street, and Dr. Mestichelli has retained sole ownership since the practice’s founding. Each time, Dr. Mestichelli moved his office in order to grow and upgrade the technology of the practice. Presently, the practice contains one doctor, one full-time hygienist and one part-time hygienist working in the four rooms available for dentistry. The practice is undergoing a period of growth, which lead Dr. Mestichelli to secure a new location at 1903-05 South Broad Street, projected to open in Summer 2013.
This new location will allow for much growth in terms of both patient services and employment. The new facility will have ten or eleven rooms available for dentistry, including a specific area for sedation dentistry and dental surgery. These are services currently not provided by Dr. Mestichelli. In addition, Dr. Mestichelli will be taking on a partner for the first time in his practice of dentistry. Dr. Michael Barnes will join the practice as soon as he graduates from the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in May 2013. Dr. Barnes also earned his MD from The University of Southern California before attending dental school. Dr. Barnes is Dr. Mestichelli’s son-in-law, which will allow the practice to continue to operate as a family business.
